Luis Manresa Formosa

Luis Manresa y Formosa SJ ( born April 8, 1915 in Guatemala City, Guatemala; † December 25, 2010 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Quetzaltenango.

Life

Luis Manresa Formosa joined the Congregation of the Society of Jesus and received on July 29, 1948 in Barcelona, ​​the ordination.

In 1955 he became Pope Pius XII. appointed second bishop of the Diocese of Quetzaltenango. He received his episcopal consecration on January 6, 1956 Archbishop Gennaro Verolino, Apostolic Nuncio to Guatemala and El Salvador. Luis Manresa Formosa was 1962-1965 a Council Father of all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council. He also served as Vice President of CELAM and 1972-1979 Second Vice President of the Latin American Bishops' Council.

From 1981 to 1992 he was Rector of the University Rafael Landívar (URL). At the URL, the Institute of Musicology was named after him.

His resignation was accepted in 1979 by Pope John Paul II. He was buried in the crypt of the Cathedral of Quetzaltenango.
