Luis Regueiro

Luis Regueiro Pagola ( born July 1, 1908 in Irun, † December 6, 1995 in Mexico City), also known by the nickname Corzo (Spanish for deer ), was a Spanish football player of Basque origin to the position of striker. He is the younger brother of Pedro Regueiro and the older brother of Tomás Regueiro, both of which were also football players. He is also the father of the multiple Mexican international Luis Regueiro Urquiola.

Career

Regueiro began his career in his hometown at Real Unión de Irun. With the Basques, he won in the season 1926/27, the Copa del Rey. In the summer of 1931, the technically gifted winger eventually moved to Real Madrid, with whom he celebrated two league titles (1931 /32, 1932/33 ) as well as many successes in the Cup ( 1933/34, 1935 /36). Starting in 1936, went to escape the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War, with the regional selection of the Basque Country to travel abroad, first to France and later to Mexico, where he was in season 1938/39, runner-up of the Mexican League. Between 1939 and 1942 he played for the Mexican club CF Asturias, before he trailed off his career between 1942 and 1944 at Club América. Luis Regueiro from then on remained in Mexico, where he died in 1995.

National

Luis Regueiro was a member of the Spanish national football team at the Olympic Games in 1928, where they reached sixth place, and the World Cup 1934 in Italy was eliminated in Spain in the quarterfinals, after a very polemical replay, against the host country.
