Lukov

Lukov ( 1927-1946 Slovak " Lukov nad Topľou "; Dornau German, Hungarian Luko ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with a population of 593 (as at 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Bardejov, a part of the Prešov Region.

Geography

The municipality is located on the northern slope of the mountain Čergov, at the upper course of the Topľa, at an altitude of 422 m nm The city center is 18 miles from Bardejov and 37 kilometers from Stara Ľubovňa.

History

One assumes that the village has existed since the 13th century. The town was first mentioned in writing in 1264. In 1355 he was one of the Nový hrad to the manor. In the 16th century Wallachian colonization reached the place; towards the end of the 16th century Lukov was a medium-sized town with mostly Rusyn population. In the 18th century was a potash plant in operation in the second half of the 19th century a paper mill. 1828 are listed 112 houses and 870 inhabitants.

To the municipality since 1944 ( other data 1943) belongs to the place Venecia, a few hundred meters west of the main town. The place was founded by a magistrate with its occupants around 1400. The name is probably alienation of the Latin name of Venice, as the first inhabitants were glassblowers of Murano. 1828 are listed 41 houses and 336 inhabitants.
