After the embossed very Bowie The Idiot Lust for Life again reminded more of Iggy Pop at his Stooges times. It has a more aggressive sound than its predecessor album, which was reflexive and also with a touch of jazz. Although David Bowie takes over at Lust for Life the same role as in The Idiot, namely, the pianist and producer, but its influence is much less to hear, than was the case with the debut.

The album contains two of the most famous pieces of Pop, The Passenger and Lust for Life, and is regarded by many as Pops best work of his solo career. Lust for Life was later in the film Trainspotting - Neue Helden recycles.
