Luteolin heard how many other yellow plant pigments to the family of flavones.
Occurrence
Luteolin is found in the Resedapflanze, in Dyer's broom, in the parsley and in artichoke leaves. It is also found in navel oranges, carrots, celery, olive oil, green pepper, chamomile, peppermint, perilla, thyme, rosemary and oregano.
Properties
In pure form, luteolin forms yellow, shiny crystals. It is poorly soluble in water.
Effects and side effects
Luteolin acts like other flavonoids in animal studies with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory. It inhibits interleukin 6 (IL -6 inhibitor) and phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4 ) inhibitor. Further positive effects on carbohydrate metabolism and anticarcinogenic effect is attributed to, but they are not yet proven scientifically in humans. In addition, luteolin possesses the rare ability to increase the plasmalemmal transport of monoamines.
The side effects which may occur, usually involve the digestive tract. It is mainly used for nausea and vomiting.
