Luther W. Mott

Luther Wright Mott ( born November 30, 1874 in Oswego, New York, † July 10, 1923 ) was an American politician. Between 1911 and 1913 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Luther Wright Mott attended public schools and graduated in 1896 at Harvard University. Then he worked in banking in Oswego. He was appointed in 1907 to the State Superintendent of Banks, however, came back after five working days. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In 1908 he attended the Republican National Convention as a delegate. He was 1910 and 1911 president of the New York State Bankers' Association.

In the congressional elections of 1910 for the 62nd Congress Mott was the 28th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles L. Knapp on March 4, 1911. In 1912 he stood as a candidate in the 32nd electoral district of New York for the 63rd Congress. After a successful election, he entered on March 4, 1913, the successor of Henry G. Danforth. He was re-elected five times in a row, however, died before the end of his last term of office on March 10, 1923 in Oswego. His body was then buried at the Riverside Cemetery.
