Since you had done with the designs of the Wiesbaden program in Ringkirche very good experience, this was imposed in the 1905 advertised architectural competition. The competition also took the co-author of the Wiesbaden program and architect of the mountain and ring church, John Otzen, in part.

Architecture

Appearance

The Lutheran Church is located at Wiesbaden Gutenberg Square, close to the ring road. It was built in the shapes of Art Nouveau and is provided with a white plaster facade. An outstanding feature is the 50 m high tower and the large church roof height of 20 meters, which rises above the ridge in the amount of 37 m and is supported by a then sensational steel construction. Due to its location on a hill in the center of Wiesbaden these elements come urbanistic particularly well.

In the tympanum above the main entrance, a cross mosaic is to see, that is with two core sets of Martin Luther's hymn A Mighty Fortress is our God graced: A mighty fortress is our God, and let the word they are to Stahn. In the cross of the Christ monogram can be seen, the left and right above the cross the two Greek letters alpha and omega as a sign that Jesus Christ is the beginning and end of the world and of all being (cf. Revelation of John 22:13).

Together with the two presbyteries ( Mosbacher road 4 and Sartoriusstraße 14 ) forms the Lutherkirche a unified architectural ensemble.

Affairs

The interior of Luther Church is built according to the rules of " Wiesbaden Programme ", which states that the three elements of worship - Altar ( Communion ), pulpit ( preaching ) and Organ ( music) - be centrally above each other; the worshipers surrounded these three elements semicircular.

The church has 1200 seats. Above them stretched over four columns cross-ribbed vault. The interior has towards the form of a longitudinal ellipse with a slight slope towards the chancel. The Art Nouveau ornamentation adorns the wood paneling of the walls, the ceiling and the gallery.

In front of the church are a vestibule and a porch. There are also other rooms, including a medium-sized community hall.

Organ / Church Music

In the church there are three tools: a three-manual organ to a romantic mood with that of the company in 1911 by EF Walcker & Cie. had been built and belongs to Wiesbaden Programme. Since 1911 it still was no oxydationsgeschützten electrical contacts, the main plant was equipped with an auxiliary game table with pneumatic action.

The mid-seventies of the 20th century was the organ in such a state of disrepair that it was decided to install a new organ. After restoration of the Walcker organ in the 1980s, the church now has two large organs. Additionally exists in the chancel a small chamber organ, which was built in 1984 by Thomas Jann (Regensburg) and about 41/2 tab features.

With this equipment and its excellent acoustics, the Church is a church of the musical centers of the Hessian state capital and home of the Bach Choir Wiesbaden, a children 's and youth choir and a Posaunenchors.
