Lycoris (company)

Lycoris was a Linux desktop and a company. Lycoris is Greek for dawn.

History

Joseph Cheek previously worked at Microsoft and Linux Care. In 2000 he founded Redmond Linux. End of 2001, he went along with the " embedded systems" company Deep Linux and named the business in Redmond Linux Corporation to. The first product was called " Redmond Linux Personal ," a simple enough for anyone to use desktop operating system. In January 2002, the company operated under the name of Lycoris. The privately held company is based in Maple Valley, Washington, USA. The most famous product is the Lycoris Desktop / LX, based on " Redmond Linux Personal ". On 16 June 2005, announced that Lycoris was acquired by Mandriva. Following the Lycoris Desktop / LX has been incorporated into Mandriva and Lycoris set as the independent distribution.

Products

Lycoris Desktop / LX is based originally on Calderas Workstation 3.1 ( Kefk.net: Debian GNU / Linux). Desktop / LX provides Internet access, OpenOffice.org packages, multimedia and more. The Lycoris desktop and its applications deliberately ignore how the Microsoft product Windows XP through to the background image ( a grassy landscape with cloudy sky). A disadvantage of Lycoris is that any development tools are absolutely lacking. Included are, eg, KDE, a photo editor, media player, Mozilla, and a PDA synchronization tool for Palm devices. Installation

Lycoris grabbed all current applications for everyday needs on just one DVD. The installation is done in about 30 minutes, a reboot is not required. To update the system developed by Lycoris Update Wizard is needed.
