Lysá hora

Lysa hora ( German: Bald Mountain, Upper Silesia: Gigula ) is the highest mountain in the Moravian- Silesian Beskids with four smaller wooded secondary peaks ( 1325 m asl. ). It is located four kilometers east of Ostravice.

Geography

The massif is one of the registers of the municipalities Ostravice, Krasna, Staré Hamry and Malenovice. From the neighboring mountains, it is separated by the deep valleys of the rivers Ostravice, Řečice and Mohelnice. Go from the main summit Gigula from four smaller side peak: Lukšinec, Malchor, Zimni Polana and Velky Kobylík.

Climate

The average temperature on the Kahlenberg is 2.6 ° C, annual rainfall amounts to an average of 1459 mm. This is the mountain one of the rainiest places in the Czech Republic.

Flora and Fauna

The actual mountain top is above the tree line and was originally bare. The present vegetation with pines is man made. Predominantly below the timberline pines grow. The more remote areas are habitat for rare animals, for example for the capercaillie and the European lynx. By the end of the last century here were nesting golden eagles and spotted eagle. However, they are now gone.

In Kahlenberg massif are several smaller nature reserves. The most valuable is the National Nature Reserve Mazák ( proclaimed 1926), which covers 93 acres on the steep western slopes in the headwaters of the river of the same name. Here grow indigenous spruce forests up to an altitude of 1315 m, just below the tree line, rich. The forests on the northern slopes are protected by the Nature Reserve Mazácký Grúnik (96 hectares). The nature reserve Malenovický kotel (146 hectares) and the natural monument Vodopády Satiny ( 8.76 hectares) include full-length, the river bed and the waterfalls at Bergflüsschen Satina. Located northwest of the summit is a cave system, the natural monument Ondrášovy Diry ( 4.5 hectares). The walk-in system length is 217 meters.

History

The Kahlenberg was mentioned as Lissa huera documented in the 13th century. In the 18th century, here the Silesian Brigand Ondráš to have hidden, entwined around many folk tales.

The importance of the mountain rose during the hiking tourism economy in the 19th century. The poet Petr Bezruč often stayed on the Kahlenberg on and immortalized him in his works, which increased the popularity of the area. Tourism also got into the perspective of nationalist interests. After the 1880 was built with support from the Duchy of Teschen, the first German mountain hut. She was one after 1918 the Beskydy Club. The Czech Tourist Club ( KCT ), built in 1935 a separate hut. Both huts were gutted by fire in 1972 and 1978.

In the years 1939-1945 the Kahlenberg was the highest mountain in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

Infrastructure and attractions

Above is dominated by a 78 -meter-high television tower, also here are a meteorological station and several mountain huts and temporary accommodation. On the southern slope is a ski slope. At the next summit Malchor is located in 925 meters height, the stone monument commemorating Ivančena 18 members of the Scout Movement, who were executed on April 24, 1945 in the Polish town of Cieszyn. Every year commemorative events take place here.
