Ostravice

Ostravice ( German Ostravice ) is a municipality in Frýdek- Místek district in the Czech Republic. It lies on the River Ostravice and at the foot of the highest mountain of the Moravian- Silesian Beskydy - the Kahlenberg ( Lysa hora ) and the Smrks. Both mountains are depicted symbolically in the municipal coat of arms. Ostravice is a major recreation center with most of houses and chalets in the region. It is located here about 2300 inhabitants.

History

The first written record dates from 1581 The emergence of Ostravice closely with the local mountain colonization on deforested forest floor in 15 -. Connected 18th century. The wood was used for the construction and turned into charcoal, in 1858 a large sawmill was put into operation. It was also found in Ostravice iron ore and processed to 1926 in hammer mills. The railway connection with Frýdlant nad Ostravicí there since 1905, since the construction of the dam Šance - Řečice Ostravice is the terminus. In the course of the centuries, expanded the municipal area (approx. 28.98 km ² ), and was until 1951 the largest in Czechoslovakia. The Catholic Holy Trinity Church in Baroque style (1789 ) has partially over the interior of the dissolved Augustinian monastery church in Fulnek, the Protestant church was built in 1874. In his log cabin in the northern part of the municipality of the Silesian poet Petr Bezruč spent every summer.
