Lysøen

Lysøen is an island in the municipality of Os (Hordaland ) in the Fylke Hordaland in Norway. It has been remodeled by the Norwegian violinist and composer Ole Bull in the period from 1872 until his death in 1880.

Villa Lysøen

The island was originally the site of a farm from the time around in 1670. Having Ole Bull had acquired the island in 1872, he designed the Villa itself He was supported by the Norwegian architect Conrad Fredrik von der Lippe. advice. The large, wooden villa combines some very different architectural styles, such as the Swiss chalet style, the Moorish style and an onion dome, as in the Russian timber.

The 0.71 km ² large island Lysøen was transformed into a fairyland with romantic paths, ponds and pavilions. The native spruce forest was supplemented by plantings of exotic shrubs and trees. We have built a total of 13 km of paths. 1903 built the Bulls American descendants from his second marriage to Sara Chapman Thorp a lookout tower.

Monument

The granddaughter Bulls, Bull Sylvea Curtis, gave the island in 1974 the Norwegian Heritage Association Fortidsminneforeningen that since 1984, opens the island in the summer months from May to August as a museum. During the annual International Cultural Festival in Bergen concerts are held in the villa.
