The called Vauzeichen - Eckflügelspanner ( Macaria wauaria ), also blackcurrant tensioner or Brown V, is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the tensioner ( Geometridae ).

Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is from 22 to 30 millimeters. All wings have a mostly light gray to purple gray base color. The apex is slightly angular. At the front edge there are four dark brown spots, of which the second is extended from the inside with a distinctive V- shaped angle bar. The hind wings show a slightly darkened hem band. The antennae of the males are combed both sides short.

Egg

The elongated oval egg has initially a green color, which later turns into a brownish red. It is provided with an irregular polygonal network and displays the angles small white warts

Caterpillar

The caterpillars are querfaltig and initially have a greenish or bluish tint. Before pupation, they take on a violet-brown color. They are equipped with black, bristle-covered point warts. The topline is lined with dark and white, the lanes are wide yellow.

Doll

The doll is colored very slim and maroon. On Kremasterende it is forked shortly.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The Vauzeichen - Eckflügelspanner comes from Morocco through Europe to the Amur and Kamchatka and Central Asia before. Northernmost distribution area is Lapland. There are also deposits in Labrador. The species inhabits rear areas, forest edges, orchards and parklands. It is also increasingly found in settlement nearby orchards and can be described as synanthropic or cultural guides. In the mountains, they can still be found at altitudes of 1700 meters.

Way of life

The nocturnal moths fly in one generation during the months of June and July. Visit artificial light sources. The caterpillars live from April to June and feed on the leaves of various fruit bushes. Among the food plants include:

  • Red currant ( Ribes rubrum)
  • Black Currant (Ribes nigrum)
  • Alpine Currant ( Ribes alpinum)
  • Gooseberry (Ribes uva- crispa )

Pupation takes place on or in the ground. The species overwinters as an egg.

Endangering

The species occurs in all German states and is run on the Red List of Threatened Species as not at risk.
