Mack Reynolds

Dallas McCord " Mack " Reynolds (born 15 October 1919 Corcoran, California, † January 30, 1983 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico ) was an American science fiction author who very particularly in the 60s of the 20th century was successful.

Life

Reynolds worked as an editor for a local newspaper. This was followed by a job at IBM, and he later foreign editor for the men's magazine Rogue, for which he traveled extensively through Europe and Africa. During the Second World War he was in the merchant marine. Reynolds was married twice and had three children.

His first science fiction story isolation was published in 1950 in the magazine Fantastic Adventures. This was followed by the novel The Case of the Little Green Men, a kind of detective story set in the science- fiction fan milieu.

Many of Reynolds' novels deal with the ideal of a utopian society. In the series, the " Section G " is about a secret organization of the "United Planets" whose job is ostensibly is to guarantee the independence of the different planets. In the future, there is described for practically any ever devised corporate and government examples. Authoritarian theocracies exist alongside anarchist planet who are committed to the ideal of Bakunin. Task of the hero, Ronald Bronston, it is the first novel in the series - Worlds in turmoil - to search a named after Thomas Paine revolutionary who initiated seemingly random uprisings against their governments. Reynolds takes the search for Thomas Paine as an opportunity to present his historical and philosophical views. It turns out that the section G itself is behind Thomas Paine. The change as such is regarded as progress, not the goal of an alternative form of society.

In Of Godlike Power ( alternative title: Earth Unaware ) is about a religious founder, who has the power to impose by mass hypnosis in his opinion unwelcome social phenomena with a "curse". So he creates, among other radio, television and literature ( except classical, such as Huckleberry Finn ). Reynolds also incorporates examples from history, such as Father Divine or the Nika Rebellion in Byzantium.

Reynolds was the first author who wrote an original novel based on the television series Star Trek: Mission to Horatius (1968).

With Frederic Brown together he brought out the humorous short story collection Science Fiction Carnival.
