Maduranthakam (Tamil: மதுராந்தகம் Maturāntakam [ ˌ mad̪ɯ ɾa n̪d̪əɡʌm ː ]; well Madurantakam, Maduranthagam, Madhuranthakam ) is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu with around 31,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

Maduranthakam is located approximately 80 kilometers southwest of Chennai (Madras ) inland from the coast of the Bay of Bengal on the shores of Lake Maduranthakam. The city is the capital of Maduranthakam taluks in the district Kanchipuram. The next largest cities are Chengalpattu 24 km north and 42 km south Tindivanam.

By Maduranthakam leads the National Highway 45 ( Grand Southern Trunk Road), one of the main thoroughfares of Tamil Nadu. In addition, the city on the route Chennai - Tiruchirappalli is connected to the railway network.

Maduranthakam is named after the Chola rulers Uttama Chola ( 973-985 ) called, nicknamed the Madurantaka ( " destroyer Madurais ").
