Magdelín Martínez

Magdelin Martínez Castillo ( born February 10, 1976 in Camagüey ) is a former Italian triple jumper and long jumper from Cuba.

First, starting for Cuba she won at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg with a width of 13.98 m bronze medal in the triple jump. In the same year she married the Italian Giuseppe Piccotti.

At the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001, it launched already for Italy. The Italian citizenship had only received on 4 August, only six days before the triple jump competition took place in which they finished in fourth place with 14.52 m.

According to a sixth place finish at the European Championships in Munich in 2002 and a fifth place finish at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham 2003, they celebrated the biggest success of her career at the World Athletics Championships 2003 in Paris. She won the bronze medal and thereby improved the Italian national record in the meantime to 14,90 m.

In 2004 she was at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest and fifth at the Olympic Games in Athens Seventh. In 2005 she took at the European Indoor Championships in Madrid the silver medal in the triple jump with a distance of 14.54 m. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005 she finished eighth. After she could not move into the final round at the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006, she was at the World Athletics Championships 2007 in Osaka sixth. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 they failed to qualify.

In addition, it was six times Italian champion in the triple jump, twice in the open ( 2002, 2007 ) and four times in the Hall ( 2003, 2005, 2008-2009 ). With a width of 15.03 m, it holds the national record in this discipline.
