Maggie Jones, Baroness Jones of Whitchurch

Margaret Beryl Jones, Baroness Jones of Whitchurch ( May 22nd, 1955 in Cardiff, South Wales) is a British politician, member of the Labour Party in which they 2000-2001 chaired and is a member of the House of Lords since 2006.

Life

Margaret Beryl Jones was born on 22 May 1955 in Cardiff. Her father, Bill Jones, worked in coal mines in Sirhowy Valley and was a life-long trade unionist and member of the Labour Party. Maggie, as they called themselves later attended Whitchurch High School in Cardiff and 18 years, the University of Sussex in Falmer in the county of East Sussex.

After completing her studies, she worked first in the National Union of Bank Employees in Cardiff, for them later in London and moved there to the National Union of Public Employees ( Nupe ), a trade union for the public service. Later she worked for UNISON, the largest union in the UK.

From 1993 to 2005 she was one of the Labour Party National Executive Committee, was a member of the Local Government Committee from 1996 to 2004 and of Housing, Transport and the Regions Commission made from 1999 to 2004. During the years 2000 and 2001 she took over the chairmanship of the Labour party and then was in the years 2003 to 2005, the Labour 's Joint Policy Committee.

In the general election in 2005 Maggie Jones lost one seemed to be sure of Labour constituency. Blaenau Gwent, with 72.0 % still won by Labour in 2001, she had to leave with only 32.2% and second place.

Since 2001, she is the spokesperson for the Labour Party in the fields of education, culture, media and sport.
