Magnus II, Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg

Magnus II of Saxe -Lauenburg (* 1543, † May 14 1603 in Ratzeburg ) was 1581-1588 Duke of Saxe- Lauenburg.

Life

Magnus was the eldest surviving son of Duke Francis I of Saxe-Lauenburg (1510-1581) from his marriage with Sibyl (1515-1592), daughter of Duke Henry of Saxony. As a 11 -year-old his father had tried in vain Magnus force to procure the diocese of Ratzeburg.

Magnus went to the Swedish court of King Eric XIV He became engaged to the sister of the king and in 1566 commander of the Swedish army in the war against Denmark, but was soon superseded by the King himself again.
