Maïné - Soroa is a department in the region of Diffa in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the southeast of the country, bordering Nigeria. It consists of the township Maïné - Soroa and the rural communities Foulatari and N'Guelbély. The eponymous capital of the department is Maïné - Soroa.

History

After independence Niger in 1960, the territory into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ) was divided. One of them was the district Maïné - Soroa. 1964 divided an administrative reform in Niger seven departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments.
