Mainstream

The mainstream (English for main current) and mass taste reflects the cultural flavor of a great majority, in contrast to subcultures or the aesthetic Underground. The Mainstream is a result of a cultural dominance.

Mainstream economics

" Mainstream economics" is a term for an economic hypothesis which forms the generally accepted basis for analyzes of economic events and the prevailing theory for a certain period. According to the definition of these " mainstream " is not universally valid, but only up to their refutation or to the acceptance of another theory with holistic " validity ".

Medial mainstream

Medial mainstream is based on the system of mass media. In general, it can be attributed for printed publications, newspapers and magazines, which have the highest number of readers. For radio and television programs, in contrast, comes the highest ratings into consideration. Mainstream in pop culture

The term is used in mainstream pop culture as an exclusion of Independent and corresponding subcultures. It can be used by critics of the mainstream, which thus express their dislike or indifference and a subculture outside the mainstream sense of belonging, such as " hipster ". Used especially as a part of a word ( mainstream rock, mainstream cinema ), it may be negatively affected, but this need not necessarily be the case.
