Makoto Murata

Murata Makoto (Japanese村田 真; * 1960 ) is a Japanese computer scientist. He was a member of the W3C Working Group ( World Wide Web Consortium ), which has developed the XML specification. In 2000, the RELAX specification language, which he later along with James Clark to RELAX NG, a well-known alternative to XML Schema, refined developed.

Career

Made in 1982 Murata his bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Science of Kyoto University. In 1985 he began working for Fuji Xerox. From 1993 to 1995 he worked at the Xerox Webster Research Center. Since 1997 he worked for Fuji Xerox Information Systems. In 2000 he left Fuji Xerox and has since been working at the International University of Japan and the IBM Tokyo Research Laboratory.

Working

XML

Since 1997 he was a member of the W3C Working Group ( World Wide Web Consortium ), which developed the XML 1.0 specification. Later he developed the XML Japanese Profile, which deals with the representation of Japanese characters in XML.

RELAX and RELAX NG

Murata and James Clark were critical of the XML Schema standard of the W3C. Murata had previously RELAX developed, it was then, in collaboration with James Clark RELAX NG as an alternative to XML Schema.
