Malia (singer)

Malia (born 1978 in Malawi ) is a jazz singer.

Life and work

Malia's mother is from Malawi, the father is British. As a teenager, she moved from her home to London and began to sing. In 2001, she heard in New York happens to be a song of the French Liane Foly and was so fascinated that she recorded with the composer and producer of the song, André Manoukian, contact and since then been brought together three albums with him. Your debut album, released in 2002 Yellow Daffodils came from critics and audiences well and brought her a first chart success. Followed in 2004, the second album Echoes of Dreams, 2007, the third album Young Bones. Her fourth album, Black Orchid is a tribute to Nina Simone.

Malia on cool jazz -oriented vocal style flirts successfully with styles of the 1960s and 1970s. Her role models include Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone.
