Malibu-Newton Canyon AVA

Malibu -Newton Canyon Valley AVA ( recognized since 13 June 1996) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of ​​Los Angeles County. The area lies within the Newton Canyon, one located just 6 km from the Pacific Ocean valley within the Santa Monica Mountains. The mostly wooded valley is still inside the city limits of Malibu. In 1987, it was George Rosenthal, who re- docked since Prohibition first vineyards in this area. In addition, the small wine-growing area was declared at the instigation in 1996 to the protected designation of origin.

The valley lies at an altitude of 430 m (1400 ft) to 850 m (2800 ft) above sea level. NN. Early morning coastal fog and cooling sea breezes provide a temperate microclimate and thus allow the cultivation of the usual Bordeaux varietals and Chardonnay in an otherwise too hot environment.
