Malibu-Newton Canyon AVA
Malibu -Newton Canyon Valley AVA ( recognized since 13 June 1996) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of Los Angeles County. The area lies within the Newton Canyon, one located just 6 km from the Pacific Ocean valley within the Santa Monica Mountains. The mostly wooded valley is still inside the city limits of Malibu. In 1987, it was George Rosenthal, who re- docked since Prohibition first vineyards in this area. In addition, the small wine-growing area was declared at the instigation in 1996 to the protected designation of origin.
The valley lies at an altitude of 430 m (1400 ft) to 850 m (2800 ft) above sea level. NN. Early morning coastal fog and cooling sea breezes provide a temperate microclimate and thus allow the cultivation of the usual Bordeaux varietals and Chardonnay in an otherwise too hot environment.
