Mammillaria stella -de- Tacubaya is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet stella -de- Tacubaya means Star of Tacubaya '.

Description

Mammillaria stella -de- Tacubaya grows mostly single. The grayish green shoots are spherical and 4-5 inches and 4-6 inches tall in diameter. They are completely hidden by the white spines. The short cylindrical shaped, apically rounded warts cause no milk juice. The axillae are occupied with sparse wool. A central spine, or even absent, is present. He's hooked, long whitish with dark tip and 4 to 11 millimeters. The 35 to 60 radial spines are interlocking, bristle-like and fit closely to the body surface. They are 3-7 mm long.

The reddish-white to greenish white flowers have a reddish-brown markings. They are 1.5 inches long. The clavate shaped fruits are brownish red. They are 0.9 to 1.5 inches long and contain brownish black seeds.

Distribution and systematics

Mammillaria stella -de- Tacubaya is common in the Mexican state of Durango.

The first description was in 1904 by Emil Heese ( 1862-1914 ). Synonyms of Mammillaria stella -de- Tacubaya Heese are Mammillaria lasiacantha var stella -de- Tacubaya ( Heese ) Linzen (1981, nom. Inval. ICBN article 33.3) and Mammillaria chica Repp. (1987).
