A Managed Services Provider (MSP) (English for operator model provider or operator solution provider ) is an information technology service provider, who assumes and manages the responsibility for providing a defined set of services to its customers.

Many MSPs offer their services remotely via the Internet, and less on customer visits, which are time consuming and often expensive. The offers of MSPs include remote maintenance, desktop security and monitoring, patch management and remote data backup, and technical assistance.

Managed Services Providers usually offer several price structures. The most common is a monthly fee, but also " time - and - material " - and " price per desktop, server, network or device " models are possible. For this fee, the IT infrastructure of the customer is monitored ( often even 24 /7) and solved problems. This offers customers the ability to focus on its own business objectives and predictable costs, as well as for the MSP predictable revenue. Development

The business model behind managed services was initially of major IT companies such as EDS ( Electronic Data Systems ), IBM Global Services, and Center Beam developed for large corporations. Later it was adapted by many retailers to small and medium-sized enterprises, whose current outlook as model the resale of hardware and software provided continuously lower profit margins. Some of the pioneers of today's managed services are Dynasis (Atlanta ), SLPowers (South Florida) and Connecting Point ( Las Vegas ).
