Manfred IV, Marquess of Saluzzo

Manfred del Vasto IV († 1340) was from 1296 until his death Margrave of Saluzzo

He was the son of the Marquis Thomas I. and took over the government in 1296 when his father died. He pursued a policy that had a development of the Margraviate of the goal.

Saluzzo, now free city was ruled by a Podestà on behalf of Del Vasto. Manfred entered into an agreement governing the relationship between the two parties.

He succeeded to expand the territory of the Margraviate through acquisition of lands and castles of other families, which he promised them in return for the payment of its debts. So he acquired as 1332 by the Marquis of Carrettos Cairo Montenotte, Rocchetta and Cortemilia.

Manfred IV got from his first wife, Beatrice, daughter of the former King Manfred of Sicily, 1283-1307 witnessed a son, Frederick, and his second wife, Isabella Doria, three: Manfred, Theodor and Boniface. Under the influence of the second wife Manfred changed the succession in favor of his second son, and thus sparked a year-long complicated dispute between the brothers Friedrich and Manfred, at the end, despite the mediation of Amadeus VI. of Savoy, no reconciliation was.

A contract was signed on 29 July 1332 then enabled the accession of Frederick - but the 1336 already died, so that the successor of Manfred IV his grandson Thomas II was in 1340.
