Cairo Montenotte

Cairo Montenotte is a municipality in the province of Savona ( Italy) with 13,222 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

History

During the First French Empire Savona was the capital of the French Department Montenotte. The department was created on June 6, 1805 and so called because Napoleon Bonaparte had won the Battle of Montenotte on April 12, 1796 against the Austrians of General Jean -Pierre de Beaulieu.
