Manganese (II ) chloride is a pale pink- red powder. The connection consists of manganese and chlorine and is usually present as tetrahydrate or in anhydrous form.

Production and representation

Manganese ( II) chloride tetrahydrate can be produced by the reaction of manganese, manganese (II ) carbonate or manganese dioxide with concentrated hydrochloric acid:

When heated in dry hydrogen chloride stream can be obtained from the tetrahydrate, anhydrous MnCl2.

Properties

Manganese (II ) chloride forms pale pink deliquescent crystals. It is very soluble in water and ethanol. In solution, the ink on the Hexaaquamangan ( II) cation, [Mn (H2O ) 6] 2 is due. The tetrahydrate is in the form of an octahedral complex in which two chloride ligands are cis. With an excess of chloride ions to form the complex anions MnCl42 ( tetrachloromanganate (II ), tetrahedral ) or MnCl64 ( Hexachloromanganat (II ), octahedral).

Use

Manganese ( II) chloride, manganese -containing catalysts used for the production of brown manganese Mn ( O) OH, and as a starting material for the synthesis.
