Manganese ( II) iodide is a chemical compound of manganese selected from the group of iodides.

Production and representation

Manganese ( II) iodide, by reaction of manganese ( II) oxide with hydrogen iodide are recovered.

The tetrahydrate can be prepared by the reaction of manganese (II ) carbonate with hydroiodic acid. The anhydrous form can it be produced by dehydration in a vacuum.

Properties

Manganese ( II) iodide is a pink solid, the brown turns to light and air. It has a hexagonal crystal structure of the cadmium (II ) iodide type with space group P3m1. It dissolves with decomposition in water. The tetrahydrate has a monoclinic crystal structure with space group P21 / c.
