Manganese (IV ) fluoride is a chemical compound of manganese selected from the group of the fluorides.

Production and representation

Manganese (IV ) fluoride can be obtained by the reaction of manganese fluoride.

It can also be obtained by fluorination of manganese (II ) fluoride by Terbiumtetrafluorid.

Properties

Manganese (IV ) fluoride is a light blue sublimate, which is very reactive and highly hygroscopic. It reacts with Petroleum under flame and goes at 0 ° C under high vacuum slowly in manganese (III ) fluoride from fluorine elimination round. With water it reacts violently and on contact with humidity, the compound decomposes immediately. In the solid state, there are two different crystal structures of manganese (IV ) fluoride. The alpha form of manganese (IV ) fluoride is made Mn4F20 rings in which manganese octahedra are connected by cis- fluorine bonds.

Use

Manganese (IV ) fluoride is used in the chemical industry as a strong oxidizing agent and as a source for the production of pure fluorine.
