Manolete

Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez, known as " Manolete ", ( born July 4, 1917 in Cordoba, Spain, † August 29, 1947 in Linares, Spain) was a Spanish bullfighter. He was known throughout Spain for his courage he mustered against the Bulls ( toros ).

In a variety of fighting the bullfighter attained a high level of awareness. He died in 1947 in the first aid room of the Linares bullring after the fighting bull Islero had taken him by the horns. The actual cause of death was believed to be a blood transfusion of the wrong blood type. His last words were, " No veo " ( German: " I see nothing ").

The Franco dictatorship tried with the death Manoletes still greater devotion to this bullfighter in the population to use for their own purposes and stylized it up the epitome of Spanish heroism and self-sacrifice of the Spaniards. The U.S. actor Adrien Brody embodies the legendary bullfighter Manolete in the eponymous film.
