Manolis Kalomiris

Manolis Kalomiris (Greek Μανώλης Καλομοίρης; born December 14, 1883 in Smyrna, † April 3, 1962 in Athens ) was a Greek composer.

Kalomiris studied in Athens at Timotheos Xanthopoulos, in Constantinople Opel at Sophia Spanoudi and from 1901 to 1906 in Vienna. From 1906 to 1910 he was a piano teacher at the Conservatory of Kharkov, after which he taught at the Athens Conservatory. In 1919 he founded the Hellenic Conservatory, which he directed until 1926. He then founded the National Conservatory. In 1947 he was elected president of the Greek Composers' Union, 1950, he became president of the National Opera.

Kalomiris composed five operas and several incidental music, three symphonies, a piano and a violin concerto, chamber music, piano pieces and numerous songs. He also published several educational music magazines.
