Manuel del Rosario

Manuel P. del Rosario ( born July 1, 1915 in Salvacion, Baao, Philippines, † March 23, 2009 in Bocaue, Bulacan, Philippines ) was Bishop of Malolos (Philippines).

Life

Manuel del Rosario, the youngest of five children, entered the seminary in 1928 in Holy Rosary Minor Seminary in. From 1932 to 1936 he studied philosophy at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and 1936-1939 theology at the city's Central Seminary. On March 25, 1939 Manuel del Rosario was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of Nueva Caceres, Naga City today, by Bishop Pedro Paulo Santos Songco for the Diocese of Sorsogon. He was first coadjutor at the Cathedral of Nueva Caceres, later chief financial officer of the diocese and parish representatives in Iriga. During the war years of World War II, he was a bishopric economist, censor, Rector of Penafrancia Shrine and Vicar General. In 1949 he became diocesan administrator, vicar general in the diocese of Catanduanes Virac and priests of the parish and in 1950 in Gubat, Sorsogon.

In 1955 he became Pope Pius XII. appointed Titular Bishop of Zerta and appointed coadjutor with right of succession in the Diocese of Calbayog. He received his episcopal consecration on 25 July 1955, the Archbishop of Caceres, Pedro Paulo Santos Songco; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Sorsogon, Teopisto Alberto Valderrama, and the Bishop of Palo, Lino R. Gonzaga y Rasdesales. He was at the time of the consecration of the youngest bishop who was ordained in the Philippines. In 1956 he became Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Calbayog.

Pius XII. appointed him in 1958 for the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Calbayog. 1961 appointed him John XXIII. the first bishop of the Diocese of Malolos. Manuel del Rosario took part in the Second Vatican Council. He suffered a stroke in 1963 and has since been confined to a wheelchair. His resignation for health reasons in 1977 by Paul VI. granted.
