Manuel Rojas (author)

Manuel Rojas ( born January 8, 1896 in Buenos Aires, † March 11, 1973 in Santiago de Chile) was a Chilean journalist and writer.

Life

After early years in Argentina Rojas ' family moved to Chile in 1899. After the death of his father (Manuel Rojas Córdova ), however, moved the mother Rojas ' ( Nadia Ahumada Kalasic ) back to Buenos Aires, where Rojas spent his school years in a row. At sixteen, he returned on his own to Chile, found in connection intellectual and anarchist circles and initially made ​​his way as an unskilled worker. Many of the characters he met in these unsettled years appeared later as fictional characters in his literary work on. Rojas 1921 published his first poems. Under the pseudonym Pedro Norte own prose he wrote for the magazines Últimas Las Noticias and El Tiempo and published literature reviews in Noticias de Última Hora. With his works Laguna and El Hombre de Ojos Azules he took part in literary competitions. 1929 awarded him the University of Concepción Literature Prize Premio Atenea and the Universidad de Chile the price Premio Marcial Martínez. Height of his literary career in 1957 to the award of the Premio Nacional de Literatura de Chile. Most recently, he taught Chilean and American literature at the Universidad de Chile. He died on 11 March 1973 in Santiago.

Work

The central theme of Rojas ' life was misery, exclusion and lostness of the Chilean working class.
