Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo

Mar Sarhad Yawsip K. Jammo ( born March 14, 1941 in Baghdad ) is a bishop of the Chaldean Catholic Church and liturgist.

Life

The son of the teacher and journalist Yousif Hermiz Jammo (1892-1965) studied at the Chaldean Patriarchalseminar in Mosul and at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. There he was ordained to the priesthood on December 19, 1964 and 1968 doctorate from the Pontifical Oriental Institute to the doctor. Subsequently, he worked as a parish pastor and rector of the seminary in Baghdad, from 1977 in the United States. With the establishment of a Chaldean diocese in North America, he was in 1991 appointed to their Vicar General. In 1993 he received a teaching assignment for Eastern Orthodox liturgies at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome.

On 21 May 2002 he was appointed bishop of the newly erected Diocese of " St. Peter the Apostle " of the Chaldeans in San Diego ( USA) appointed and consecrated by Patriarch Raphael I Bidawid SS on 21 July 2002. After his death he was next to Bishop Antoine Audo of Aleppo ( Syria), one of the contenders for the succession to the patriarchate. But none of them could achieve the required majority of electoral synod unite themselves. Elected was finally Emmanuel III. Delly.
