Marceli Nowotko

Marceli Nowotko (pseudonym: Marian, born August 8, 1893 in Warsaw, † November 28, 1942 ) was a Polish labor leader.

Nowotko entststammte a family of peasants. He was first gardener's assistant, later locksmith in Ciechanów. In 1916 he became a member of the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania ( SDKPiL ). From 1916 to 1918 he worked as forced laborers in Germany. As of 1918 in Warsaw workers 'and soldiers ' councils were established, Nowotko was heavily involved. In the years after 1920, he worked as a secretary in various district committees of the CPP. 1935 Nowotko was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in prison. When the Second World War, he managed to escape and ran in January 1942, the founding of the Polish Workers' Party, whose first chairman, he was. Nowotko considered as co-founder of Gwardia Ludowa ( People's Guard ). For this organization, the Armia Ludowa, the People's Army was created in 1944. Marceli Nowotko was murdered today from unexplained causes in 1942.
