Marcelo Mattos

Marcelo Mendonça de Mattos, (born 10 February 1984 in Indiaporã, Brazil ) is a Brazilian footballer who plays in central midfield.

Marcelo Mattos began his professional career in 1999 with the Brazilian third division Mirassol Futebol Clube from Sao Paulo where he stood until 2001 under contract. After stints at FC Tokyo and Oita Trinita in the Japanese J-League Mattos moved again in 2003 to Brazil to São Caetano. With his new club, he managed to establish itself right away and find a place in the root formation. In two seasons Mattos came to a total of 69 missions came and won the Campeonato Paulista the first professional title of his career. 2005 Mattos moved to league rivals Corinthians where alongside players such as Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano, he formed the backbone of the team and won the Brazilian championship. In two years at Corinthians Mattos came on 50 Erstligaeinsätze, was able to achieve nine goals and in 2005 was honored as the best defensive midfielders in the Brazilian league. In 2007 he moved for a transfer fee of three million euros to the Greek club Panathinaikos, where he signed a four year contract.

His first European Cup game Mattos completed on 20 September 2007 at a UEFA Cup match against FC Artmedia Bratislava who won his team Panathinaikos 2-1. Since 2008 Mattos is also in the possession of Italian nationality.

2001 Mattos took part with the Brazilian national team at the U -17 World Cup.
