Marcin Mielczewski

Marcin Mielczewski (* 1600, † September 1651 in Warsaw) was a Polish composer.

Mielczewski was, together with his teachers Franciszek Lilius and Bartholomew Pękiel to the most important Polish composers of the 17th century.

From 1638 to 1644 he worked as a composer and musician in the Royal Chapel of Warsaw, which was then under the direction of Marco Scacchi. In 1645 he was Kapellmeister at the court of the Prince-Bishop of Breslau and Płock, Charles Ferdinand Vasa a brother king.

His most famous works are composed in Italian " Concertato " style of the early 17th century. In one of his instrumental canzoni we find the earliest use of a Mazurka in courtly music.
