Marcus Nikkanen

Marcus Rafael Nikkanen ( born January 26, 1904 in Helsinki, Finland, † 28 March 1985 ) was a Finnish figure skater, who started in a single run.

He is the most successful Finnish figure skaters in the men's singles and the only Finn to have won a medal at the world championships in this competition.

The ten- times Finnish champion Nikkanen decreased in the period 1929-1937 at seven world championships and never placed worse than seventh. In Zurich in 1933 he won the bronze medal behind Karl Schäfer and Ernst Baier. Also at European Championships he won the bronze medal once, in 1930 in Berlin behind Karl Schäfer and the Czechs Otto gold. It was the second bronze medal for Finland at the European Championships after Gunnar Jakobsson 1923. Nikkanen represented Finland at the Olympic Games three times. 1928 in St. Moritz, he finished sixth, 1932 in Lake Placid Fourth and 1936 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen seventh.
