Marcus Pfister

Marcus Pfister ( born July 30, 1960 in Bern ) is a Swiss picture book author and illustrator.

After a visit to the school of applied arts Bern Pfister graduated from four-year apprenticeship as a graphic designer and worked as such for an advertising agency, focused from 1983 but on a career as an artist in the field of sculpture and photography. In 1986, he released his first picture book The tired owl.

A worldwide success he managed from 1992 when the North-South Publishing published The Rainbow Fish a fish with some scales glittering in many different colors, which does not want to share with the other fish 's scales. Pfister designed then some more books with the rainbow fish as a main character. The books on the rainbow fish have been translated into over 80 languages ​​and have sold over 15 million copies. The American TV channel PBC produced in 2000 a 26-part animated series based on Pfister's history.

Pfister works in his illustrations with watercolors. He lives in Bern.
