Mare Humboldtianum

The Mare Humboldtianum (Lat. " Humboldt Sea" ) is a lunar Sea of the Moon within the Humboldtianum Basin east of Mare Frigoris.

It is located on the selenographic coordinates 56.8 ° N, 81.5 ° E and has a diameter of 273 km on.

It was named after John H. Mädler, who named the sea after Alexander von Humboldt, in recognition of his research into undiscovered lands.

It is one of only two Mary, who were named after people (besides Mare Smythii ).
