Oldest open-minded rocks are cryptocrystalline limestones Kimmeridgiums in the far northeast. After a long hiatus In the following transgressive Cenomanian, was built on the Mareuil. The Cenomanian consists of gray-green, oysters leading marls and sandy Alveolinenkalken. It is concordant with the Turonian Ligérien and the Angoumien ( Rudistenkalke ). It shows, in contrast to the otherwise more or less flat-lying formations partially light, tectonic tilting. In the Turonian, which consists of quite hard Fossilkalken Coniacian follows. The layer sequence is completed by chalky, partly glaukonithaltigem Santonian, which has remained but received only on the northeastern ridge. Another tectonic feature is a NW-SE trending, parallel to the anticlinal extending warpage is ( Mareuil- fault) that runs from La Rochebeaucourt to the north of Brantome and is in direct genetic connection with the movements of the anticlinal. This is a deferment with an offset of around 30 meters, with the southwest half was raised. The chalk formations are then covered in the extreme northeast of upper pleistocene colluvium consisting of old rites of Santon.
