According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 km ², of which 3.7 km ² of land and 0.5 km ² ( 11.39% ) is water.

According to the census of 2000, there are 8,193 people, 3,984 households, and 2,302 families residing in the city. The population density is 2243.5 persons per km ². 95.73 % of the population are White, 0.87 % African American, 0.02 % Native American, 1.56 % Asian, 0.07 % Pacific Islander, 0.92 % from other races, and 0.83% mixed race. 2.71% are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
