Margravine Magdalene Sibylle of Brandenburg-Bayreuth
Magdalena Sibylle of Brandenburg-Kulmbach/Bayreuth ( born November 1, 1612 Bayreuth, † March 20, 1687 in Dresden) was by marriage Electress of Saxony.
Life
She was the daughter of Margrave Christian to Brandenburg-Kulmbach/Bayreuth (1581-1655) and Marie of Prussia.
They married on November 13, 1638 in Dresden, the Elector Johann Georg II of Saxony. The couple had three children:
- Marie Sibylla (1642-1643)
- Erdmuth Sophie (1644-1670), ⚭ 1662 Margrave Christian Ernst of Brandenburg- Bayreuth
- Johann Georg III. (1647-1691), Elector of Saxony, Princess Anna Sophie of Denmark ⚭
Magdalena Sibylle was a friend of the Swedish royal family and was able to save the town of Pirna in 1639 by a letter to the Swedish generals from destruction. 1680 her husband died and she took her widow's residence to Freiberg Colditz and in the " residence home" Dresden, also possessed the Vorwerk fishing village (later Birckholzens ). Her grave is located in Freiberg Cathedral.
