Maria of Bytom

Maria of Bytom (also Mary of Bytom and Cosel, Polish Maria Bytomska, Czech Marie Bytomska, * 1282-1284; † December 15, 1317 in Timişoara) was Queen of Hungary, Croatia and Dalmatia. According to another source it was also called Maria Maria Katharina Ecaterina respectively.

Life

Mary was born as the only daughter of Duke Casimir Beuthener II and his wife Helen of Halych ( 1304-1323 ).

In 1306 she was married to Charles Robert, since 1301 King of Croatia and Dalmatia, and from 1308 also King of Hungary. The couple had daughters

  • Catherine ( † 1355 ), since 1338 married to the Schweidnitzer Duke Henry II
  • Elisabeth ( † 1367 ), married to Bolko of Opole.

Maria died on December 15, 1317 in Timişoara and was buried in the Basilica of Székesfehérvár. Other sources mention the December 15, 1315 as date of death and name the St. Catherine's Church in Timişoara as a burial place.

Her husband married after her death with Beatrice of Luxembourg.
