Henry II, Duke of Åšwidnica

Henry II of Schweidnitz ( * after 1312, † 1343 ) was Duke of Świdnica and Jawor and father of Czech and the Roman-German Queen and Empress of the Holy Roman Empire of Anna Schweidnitz.

Origin and family

Heinrich came from the family of the Silesian Piast dynasty. His parents were Bernhard II († 1326), Duke of Świdnica and Jawor, and Gwendolyn, daughter of the Polish king Władysław I the Elbow-. Henry's siblings were:

1338 Henry was married to Catherine, daughter of the Hungarian king Charles Robert. The marriage came from the only daughter Anna.

Life

After his father's death in 1326 Henry was initially under the guardianship of his uncle, Henry I and Bolko II of Münsterberg After reaching maturity Henry ruled the Duchy of Świdnica and Jawor, together with his older brother Bolko II of Schweidnitz.

After Henry's early death, his possessions were inherited by his brother Bolko, who was also guardian of Henry's daughter Anna. Since Bolko was childless, he transferred the Duchy of Świdnica and Jawor testament to his niece Anne of Schweidnitz or their descendants.
