Mariatorget metro station

Mariatorget is an underground station of the Stockholm Metro and close to Mariatorget, but not directly under it. It is located in the Södermalm district. The station is owned by the Röda linjen the Stockholm subway system operated. The central location in the city center makes the station to one of the most frequented stations of the metro network. On a normal working day rise to 18,000 commuters here.

The station was taken on April 5, 1964 in operation, as the first section of Röda was inaugurated linjen between T- centralen and Fruängen or Örnsberg. The station was built in an open design, the platforms are located approximately 20 meters below the ground. The station is located between the stations Zinkensdamm and Slussen. Stockholm Central Station is about two kilometers.

Trivia

  • In the subway station there is a small sculpture called " Människa och pelare " by Asmund Arle, which has been stolen at least eight times.
  • On 18 March 2008 dynamite was discovered in the tunnel between Mariatorget and Slussen. This had been forgotten after the work of Röda linjen. All traffic on the Röda linjen had to be suspended until the police had removed the old sticks of dynamite during the morning rush.
