Marie Seebach

Marie Seebach (born 24 Februarjul / March 8 1829greg in Riga, .. † August 3, 1897 in St. Moritz ) was a German actress and opera singer.

Life and work

Seebach came from a family of artists and made his debut as a child in various roles. It was in 1850 one of the first students at the Music Conservatory of Cologne in order to train for the opera singer. Despite some success Seebach later switched to acting and worked at theaters in Lübeck, Danzig and Kassel with success as a soubrette.

Seebach was engaged at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, where she played after a short trial period, Gretchen. After a very successful stint in Vienna, she was hired by director Francis of Dingelstedt to Munich, where she was in 1854 mitbeteiligt on sensational total drama Dingelstedt. Your skills Seebach just brought in tragic roles, the opportunities to several guest appearances on; inter alia, in the Vienna Burgtheater and the Meiningen Court Theatre.

1859 guested Seebach at the City Theatre in Hanover and married the opera singer Albert Niemann. With him she went in 1866 to Berlin. The marriage was unhappy and ended in divorce soon. Seebach undertook in the following years several extensive tours; inter alia, to Saint Petersburg (1868 ) and Amsterdam ( 1869). After the war of 1870 led in 1871 an extensive tour through the USA.

After further appearances abroad Seebach in 1886 member of the ensemble of the Royal Schauspielhaus in Berlin. With about 60 years, she retired from public life and settled in St. Moritz. There she died at the age of 63 years on August 3, 1897.

When her son Oscar, a singer, painter and composer, 1893 died at the age of 32, she founded in 1895 in Weimar a home for needy stage performer, which she ran until her death. This is located on the Tiefurter Avenue.

Marie Seebach and Oscar were buried in the cemetery of Trinity Church II at the Bergmann Strasse in Berlin -Kreuzberg. The representative grave monument bears a created by Carl Hans Bernewitz Porträtrelieftondo of Seebach. The grave is marked as an honorary grave of Berlin.
