Marin (Haute-Savoie)

Marin is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Marin is at 583 m above sea level. M., 4 km east of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Chablais, with splendid views of the valley east of the Dranse, approximately 200 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​5.58 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the central Chablais. The western boundary runs more or less along the lower Dranse who steps out here from a deep gorge in the Lake Geneva area and opens with a large alluvial fan in the lake. From the Dranse the communal land extends eastward over the relatively gently but continuously increasing slope up to the subsequent plateau. With 660 m above sea level. M. is achieved on the Fond des Prés, the highest elevation of Marin.

At Marin include the hamlet settlements Sussinges (460 m above sea level. M. ), Moruel (520 m above sea level. M. ), Marinel (546 m above sea level. M. ) and Chullien (605 m above sea level. History

The place name Marin appears as early as 516 as marianum in the documents. It probably goes back to the personal name Maro and thus means for the people of Maro. Marin was an independent municipality until 1973, but was then fused with Thonon -les- Bains. Since 1995 there is a separate municipality again.

Population

With 1627 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Marin is one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous growth of the population was recorded. Outside of the old village larger family house districts are mainly due to the beautiful residential area.

Economy and infrastructure
