Marina di Camerota

Marina di Camerota is an Italian coastal town in Cilento with about 3500 inhabitants, and the center of the second largest national park in Italy (UNESCO World Heritage). He is a district of the municipality of Camerota in the province of Salerno (Campania ).

History

Marina di Camerota ( resp. of Camerota Alta, up on the mountain ) was a place of emigration to Venezuela in the 19th century. The connection to the South American country is still strong, is still called the main street Via Bolivar. The larger houses in Marina were built by the returnees from Venezuela, whose descendants still has a large part of the floor. The " Venezuelans " settled mainly in the west of the municipal area, the eastern part (old Castello, and Palazzo dei Marchesi ) was more of the ( lower ) nobility reserved. Despite the tourist boom since the 1960s, which is actually only affects the many campsites between Marina and Palinuro, the place outside of the summer months has retained the character of a quiet fishing village.

Geography

The village is located about 200 km south of Naples and 90 km from Salerno to the fortieth degree of latitude. The coast is very varied in this area.
