The Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni (Japanese岩 国 飞行 场, Iwakuni - hikōjō ) is a military airfield of the U.S. Marine Corps, located in the delta of the Nishiki River on the site of the city of Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture of Japan. It takes a base approximately 2/ 3 of the area enclosed by the river deltas. Its ICAO code is RJOI.

On the basis of soldiers are stationed in about 2900 and it is the home of the 12th Fighter Battalion of the U.S. Navy, which used the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18.

Currently, a Aufschüttungsprojekt Japan in progress, which aims to create 790 ha new land. The runways of the airbase are to be relocated to this site for the city to get more space by the release of the now occupied territory, and that the noise exposure of the population decreases.

History

In 1940, the Japanese military opened an airbase on the site. From 1946-1952 the basis of the UN was controlled, the U.S. Air Force was using it since 1950 to fly attacks in which at that time held the Korean War. Since 1958 she is a base of the U.S. Navy.
